Citrus! ― 2025/02/21

Strawberries are no longer an everyday fruit because of their sky-high price, but citrus fruits are still relatively accessible and there are plenty of supply now.
The other day I found domestically grown grapefruits (230 yen each) for the first time.

The "grapefruit" looked very much like a grapefruit, but it tasted much like what we call the "pearl kan" as it is said to share some genes with the grapefruit. While the pearl kan tends to be lower priced, but has a lot of seeds, this "grapefruit" is more expensive, but has no seeds and is therefore easier to handle.

Hello. I’ve decided to become a regular reader of your blog rather than taking long periods away between. Just wanted you to know. I felt really bad for you after that encounter with the woman after she purchased the fish heads. I kind of wanted you to know what you thought about the over tourism and tourists because I appreciate your honesty but I could not find too much. Hope your days will be better.

Diane San,
Thank you for your comment!
I will say more later as I have an appointment with my dentist this afternoon.

(continued) Diane San,
I appreciate your decision to visit here regularly.
By the way, just in case I missed the point of your comment... Could you please let me know whether you would like me to tell you how I feel about too many tourists in this country, or you would like to tell me how you feel about them?

I am so sorry I did not find your response sooner. Sometimes when I try to access your blog I get the message that there is no server available. I have no idea what that means. But all there is before me is a blank page with the message in the top left corner. Then it’s a bit discouraging. I don’t understand the problem with no connection. Today it all connected, except a lot of your photos did not load and I really like the photos! About the tourism, I wondered if the anti-tourist sentiment is concentrated in the usual popular tourist sites that are in Tokyo, Osaka, and Kyoto. I have seen in the news the problems about Mt Fuji. We will be coming to Chiba Prefecture on May 12/13. I am a liitle worried about anti-tourist feelings and also because of the president we have…

Thanks for your comment.
I'm afraid I have no idea about the display/connection malfunction either. I sometimes have the same problems with my own blog.
As for the tourist xenophobia, I guess the hostility toward American people due to the tariffs and other challenges your President has proposed hasn't been so visible here (yet).
I really have no idea how Tokyo/Osaka/Kyoto people would feel about tourists first hand, but in my opinion you should (still) be safe and welcome as long as you show some sort of respect and common sense to your host community. We tend to have negative feelings towards people from certain regions other than the US. Their manners and behavior sometimes rub us the wrong way. But in fact, what they are doing in this country now is exactly what we used to do abroad when our economy was strong in the past.
As for me, I don't hate the tourists themselves, but I do hate shops and organisations that give them too much priority, as if this country were their colony or something.
I wish you a safe and pleasant stay in Chiba. I'm sure you will be welcome there.
