Okihai ― 2021/09/12
Because of the "fifth wave" of the COVID19 infections where you might not be able to even see a doctor if you catch it, I have been trying to go out even less often. And as one of such efforts, I have started getting everyday household supplies such as washing-up liquid, toilet rolls and various wipes, online.
To do so, I rely on a helpful service called "Oki-hai (置き配, literally 'leaving the package as a means of delivery'." In this method, we, I mean myself and the deliverer, do not have to get in physical contact at all with each other. What you need to do is just saying "Please leave it (置き配お願いします/Okihai onegai simasu)" through the intercom when the delivery person rings the doorbell. After confirming the sender and your name, they leave the ordered goods. No hanko is required. The delivery people would take a photograph of the package they leave as an evidence of delivery.
So far, I have been successfully received my orders from Japan Post

and Kuroneko Yamato.

When I tried this system for the first time with Japan Post, I was so nervous worrying I might find a cat's dismembered body or something in the box, or the deliverer might not accept my request and insist on handing them hand to hand, or someone would snatch the delivered item even before I pick it up. So my voice might have sounded somehow tremble.
But things went unexpectedly smooth. They simply say "Certainly, I am leaving your box here, Thank you." and that's it. No problem all.
I should have tried this method earlier, instead getting scared by other shoppers who do not wear a mask or enjoy shopping with their entire family, or angry at mingy points AEON gives me.
