Sorry for being such an annoyance for you...

Under Green Leaves2022/06/06

There are perfect-looking spots for reading under tree...if only there was no biting bug carrying unpleasant or sometimes lethal viruses.
You know, Fukuoka's summer is full of danger...such bugs, humidity & heat, sudden lighting and heavy rain and murderers...and many more!

Wildly High-Tech2022/06/08

Recently, my local Nishitetsu store has been rapidly digitalized.

At first, there was only a top up machine for nimoca (digital ticket that can also be used for shopping) at the corner of the store. Then an Amazon Locker was installed,

the top up machine was replaced with a Seven Bank ATM, and even a Mercari Post (I don't know what this is) was introduced. These have happened in just a couple of years.

Along with the digitalization, I think I have seen more young shoppers in the store.

Even though it has gone wildly high-tech, the Nishitetsu Store still stocks under garments for elderly ladies (at around 500 yen), which is why I like this local grocery store.

Under Preparation2022/06/08

I heard this beach is man-made and needs to be maintained every year in order to make the surface flat and even. This year’s work to move the sand has started

Still Reading2022/06/09

My Golden Kamuy fever is still going on. Last week I read these three books, all of which are library books, hoping to learn a bit more about the background of the story.

I have found this one particularly interesting.

With sufficient data and evidence, this book taught me how Ainu people were treated during and after they were in military, and how Asahikawa developed as a military city. Although I have read only a part of this book, I feel like I have learnt a lot(at least I have realized there are lots of historical facts that I have never thought of). Now I would definitely love to visit Asahikawa where the Seventh Division was.

There were Gol-Kam related programs on TV as well.

One is a program about a bear-attack incident in Sankebetsu area, Hokkaido. A bear that has acquired a taste of human flesh...and people who had to fight against it... both couldn't be more miserable... Moreover, the massacre took place only a little over 100 years ago, and I'm afraid that it can still happen even (right) now.

Bear!

The other is a program about young Ainu.

I didn't know that no one speaks Ainu as their mother tongue anymore. I assumed Ainu was like Okinawan dialect and (to some extent) spoken as an everyday language.

After reading Golden Kamuy, it seems I have got many antennas that is very sensitive to topics related to the comic. There are lots of stuff to read and see. What a pleasant hassle!

To cap it all, I have finally begun to collect the comic books, which I have been resisting due to the limited capacity of my book shelves.

So far I have bought only two books (There will be 31 volumes in total). Can I be forgiven (by who?) if I bought three books each month?

(Imaginary )Role Models to Age Gracefully2022/06/11

Let me tell you about some more books I have recently read that have nothing to do with Golden Kamuy.
I sometimes feel depressed thinking about getting older these days, but these two cheerful books have made me feel better: at least when it comes to clothing, living a long life is not all miserable.
However, given the fact that one of the books is a manga and the other is written by a former Takarazuka star, it might be more challenging or even risky to blindly follow their doctrines than imitating styles of  Christine Lagarde or Kang Kyung-Wa (and  Janet Yellen make the world's three greatest gray-haired ladies. by my definition).

One of the things these two ladies have in common is that they wear their treasured  clothes for a long time.

In this respect, the Takarazuka lady is very convincing.
Why? Because if you see one of her videos posted more than six years ago on YouTube, you will find her wearing the very jacket and jewelry introduced as her favorite on the book published in 2021.
Both of them are expensive, but not forbiddingly expensive, either. If a person in showbusiness, which involves a lot of public appearances, could do with so limited number of clothes, why do I have to buy new clothes every season and waste them?
By the way,  why do former Takarazuka stars tend to sing what the Japanese call "chanson" or so-called "standard number" as their second career?  I would like to listen to their Enka (Aki Yashiro-ish) and Matsuken Samba-like gorgeous and playful songs.

I felt like I have seen a similar ideas (wearing what you love for a long time) somewhere. Yes, it was on this book
I came across this book at the municipal library (then at the bottom of the Port Tower) more that 40 years ago (translated by Yoshio Kataoka! Published in 1977!  The book I own now is a reprinted one).  I seem not to have evolved for 40 years. There are times when you can't achieve anything even if you sit on a stone for 40 years.
The 70s book strictly excludes "fake" and "cheap" things while the above ladies are more tolerate and enjoy fast fashion. What we now call Fast Fashion may well not have existed in the latter half of the 1970s、though.

Hydrangeas 20222022/06/16

Don't you think hydrangeas look more beautiful under the sunlight, which help me get clearer images.

Mummies, Again?2022/06/17

"Ancient Egypt Exhibition" is being held at  a local museum until Sunday. As long as I can remember, mummies were exhibited last year, too.
In fact, my quick googling has revealed we have had quite many Egypt-related exhibitions in this city.

There have beem...
And this time's exhibition.

Nine shows (and may be more) in 17 years...
...I didn't know how much we love mummies, or we want to be cursed.

By the way, the next show this museum offers is Sanrio Exhibition(July 15-September 25) . Admission fee is 1800 yen (on the door). Mummies and Hello Kitty are the same price. How could I say...
