They are not emergency water. Actually they are one of measures to keep cats away from gardens.

As long as I can remember, people suddenly started this ritual in the 90s. Probably they believe that the dazzling light reflection of the water in the bottles would frighten cats off. In the heyday of this bottle-lining method, you would have seen plastic bottles lined in every residential areas. After it was rumoured that the bottles filled with water could start a fire by collecting and concentrating sunlight like magnifying glass, less people have been practicing this.

Some people seem to prefer different, or more direct, approaches than adorning their house with plastic bottles.

Even City Council doesn’t seem to welcome cats in its' parks. “Don’t feed cats in this park”: …..Can we feed them in other places?

No wonder why cats in the parks around here look terrified, except for this one. “You hate me, don’t you?”
