A Skill I Need Now2020/05/01

Vegetable prices have been soaring while their availability and quality seem to be rapidly worsening.
Yesterday's shopping was a total mess. Broccoli (298 yen) was half-melted and apple (198 yen),  was browned inside and tasted bitter.  Both were which were outrageously high-priced for the store, but I accepted the price because of this unusual situation and because they are out of season in this area. But this quality...

I would have stormed into Marukyo to complain if it is peacetime. But now, yelling at the till would be hugely anti-social and cause a big trouble--I might get arrested.
I might have been too naïve when it comes to shopping. I used to think merchants would never sell anything wrong in this country, so I would buy anything I took, which is no longer the norm. I have to learn to be more careful (and quick at the same time) when shopping.

A New Rule2020/05/02

To protect bus drivers, don't cross the yellow line behind the front seat, and naturally, don't take a seat just behind the driver unless when getting off the bus.

A Life without AEON2020/05/02

A few weeks have passed since I stopped shopping at AEON. I don't like to see people there still considering shopping to be a leisure activity, which gets on my nerves in many ways (imagine  families of five people touching things everywhere and chatting without mask and cutting into your way in your local Target, Tesco or other bigger supermarket). In this challenging time when shopping bacame a kind of  battle to defend one's household, I can't take unnecessary extra stress these people give me. The dislike of getting stressed is stronger than fear of getting infected with the C-virus.

If I had to be infected, I would like it to happen in more acceptable ways: for example, by eating a nice meal at my favourite restaurant, feeding animals in the zoo, or breathing deeply in museums full of antiques--not by having a 100-yen doughnut at a crowded food court (it is by no means wrong, or rather, I love it in peacetime though).

Living without AEON is to certain extent inconvenient, to be honest with you. Also, a sense of loss of the shopping points I would have earned has been haunting me. But it is also true that I feel less stressed as I don’t have to come across the “outlaw” families and distressed shop staff pushed onto the frontline without adequate protection and knowledge.

New Standard2020/05/03

no longer weird
A TV program asking experts of infectious diseases about the coronavirus. In the studio was only the MC.
TV programs in this style no longer loos strange, or rather, looking more normal than meaninglessly many people sitting closely to chat about gosipps.

Lucky to see you, in many ways!

A New Word2020/05/03

Active Baka/アクティブ馬鹿(バカ) noun. adjective
(offensive) Describing people who actively go out as if it was not emergency,  not following "stay-at-home" guidelines issued by the government. They might be considered to be selfish and anti-social and the subject of hatred from those who try to reduce their outing as much as possible.

Zero!2020/05/04

There was no newly confirmed corona patient in this city yesterday (the number of tested patients were 36).  Should we think that our very lenient (you may say "sloppy") approach has worked, or something is hidden in this number, such as a possibility that the number will skyrocket after this early summer holiday season?

Today's Shopping2020/05/04

A cabbage was 399 yen at Nishitetsu Store! Combined effect of Golden Week and the end of season shortage?
Apart from this, I did today's shopping relatively smoothly. People were shopping in much more civilized way, than the beginning of this corona crisis,  giving way and exchanging casual nod to each other . I felt neither frightened nor terrorized.

This week's "had gone" items I found were:
a corn snack calle "kaaru",
has gone
(https://www.meiji.co.jp/products/snack_biscuit/08753.html)

fried noodle "Nagasaki Sara Udon",
also has gone
(http://www.marutai.co.jp/products/chowmein/post_29.php)
hotcake/pancake mixes and
butter and whipping crème (but cheeses were available plentily).
