Fukuoka Zoo in Winter 22014/01/25

(Continued from previous post)

Of course I met many animals there. They were more charming than I thought when they were on TV screen or in Youtube.

Also, I honestly surprised how close I can get to the animals.

Most of them were enjoying sunbathing and a nap, which I prefer watching to having to see frustrated animals relentlessly wondering back and forth in their cage.

contented

A contented lion looked like a cat.

ZZZ...

From this view, it’s hard to believe a Japanese black bear may attack people.

reflecting...

Are these penguins depressed or fully enjoying sunlight exposing their nape to ultraviolet rays?

Some animals were active and looked even cuter.

very active

Red pandas are everyone’s idol—the cutiest animal on the earth I believe.

Leopard pattern is best much to her.

Another leopard. This cat is called “Bengal Mountain Cat” in Japanese, but “leopard cat” in English. Not giving an identity doesn’t violate animal rights?

You can buy a piece of bread (looks delicious for human consumption, but I didn’t try) at JPY100 to feed deers.

100 yen for dears

They ignored me at first, only one deer looked interested in me.

who are you?

But once I opened the bread box, their attention immediately turned to me.

turned to me

And after I hold the bread, they rushed towered me (to be more precise, the bread I held) like this.

scramble dears

Oh, it's such a perfect day.

A part of my purpose to go to the zoo in winter was to see monkey dango (literally, a monkey dumpling, or monkeys crowded together to warm each other) I saw in a News show the other day.

sarudango

But they were rather scattered.

It might be too warm for them to form a dango.

But I came across an otter dango, instead.

homesick?

A Hikikomori Orang-utan  with whom I sympathised so deeply that I almost burst into tears imagining how lonely and isolated he might feel.  Maybe he was just hogging the heater, though.

The other, more sociable orang-utan was enjoying a cabbage meal with her white-handed gibbon friend.

what's this?

I said so

The white handed gibbon also played a spectacular Ninja-ish show.
