Roasted Green Tea ― 2010/10/15

At last, this year’s summer has gone. It’s certainly autumn.
It might be time to switch our everyday drink from roasted barley tea to roasted green tea. Green tea is usually roasted in the production process, but this go through the process even further until it became dark brown.
.
As the ingredient of this type of tea is a kind of second-class tea leaves (I mean, not the finest served at tea ceremonies), roasted tea is much cheaper than green tea. The price range is, as long as I know, between JPY200 and around JPY 800/100grams. I tend to get it for less than JPY400/100grams).

If you don’t know what to do with your green tea in your cupboard, you can roast it in a dry wok. This will reduce the grassy tang of green tea, and add a pleasant aroma (slightly similar to coffee but not as strong as coffee), which may make the tea more accessible for some of you. Plus, when roasted, green tea seems to get along better with sugar and milk (an important point for you, isn’t it?).
