I thought that a bench is something gives you a relaxation.
These benches look to have been designed to give you directions on how you sit: the ideal distance between someone next to you, and the model angle of your sitting position.
Probably they are designed to prevent someone from sprawling on the bench (, which I personally think OK when the park is not busy).
I’m not sure why I have to be taught how to sit by someone I have never met.

According to the manufacturer’s website, this rail is designed to help elderly people go up and down stairs without giving burden to their knees.
I find it fun to hold it, but didn’t feel helped to give my weight a lift. Maybe I am not old enough to be able to benefit from it.
There is something that you can enjoy only when you become older.

I found another model of ‘keep-out’ bar’s leg used in a construction site.
This time, plastic sunflowers supported the bars. Very seasonable!

Actually this is a leg of a “keep-out” bar in a construction site.
A big troop of smiling flat monkeys are working here to keep people from getting in, which somewhat reminds me of the Bingmayong, the Chinese teraccota soldiers...
Preparation for Summer ― 2010/06/27
For the past several days, heavy machines have been occupying a beach near my flat to level out the ground.
According to a company which looks after the beach under the contracts with the city council, this beach is 100% man-made, so unlike natural beaches, it can’t look after itself. The ground can get uneven and the water doesn’t have self-purification ability. As a result, it needs to be cleaned and levelled every single year.
Although cleaning ladies pick up rubbishes every week, moving sand seems to need something more powerful.
I was not going to blame the city council for having made such a costly beach (actually I like watching heavy machineries at work). But how would you think about the fact that you can’t swim here because of (according to the city council regulations) the bottom of the sea is uneven and the seawater is not clean enough. And, there are many ‘natural’ and well-equipped swimming beaches within a 10km radius. So where is the point of this work? For beach volleyballers?
Hint: the land-reclaiming projects here started in the 1980s when no one would have thought our economy (and tax revenues) would be in this situation.
Latest Model ― 2010/06/21
As I mentioned in my previous entry (here), there are housing parks where you can view latest sample houses that numerous house manufacturers offer. And this is one of their recommendations.
As long as I can remember, for the past few decades, there have been some trends in house styles. Each trend featured different style and materials.
When I was younger (the 1990s), imported houses from colder countries,
I don’t know if these houses got along with the humidity of this country, though.
Later, more natural or traditional-looking houses featuring wooden beams and/or mock earthen wall or something like that became popular.
And now, the ghosts of Modernists have come back in the 21st century.
I know there are something called architectural styles (gothic, classic, and I don’t know any more). In the future architectural historians may categorise our current houses as the ‘pre-bubble’ or ‘post-bubble’ style, commenting “the characteristics of this era is a great confusion of materials and styles… Then economic instability and lack of hope to the future are reflected in these confused cityscapes….”

Power of Plants ― 2010/04/28
I am not talking about organic cosmetics or naturopathy.
To prevent landslide, slope faces tend to be sealed and reinforced with concrete or concrete blocks.
Do you think they are unsightly? Suppressing the nature?
Quite contrary, nature is not as submissive as the landscape planners assumed. Some plants are getting along with such restraints. Their roots survive underneath the hard surface,
or find their way to show their resilience with their powerful shoots.
By the way, does this block-sealed surface look like waffles?
