A Big Summer Wash: Finishing Touch ― 2021/08/01
To finish up the big summer wash, I tried to clean the washing machine itself with a pouch of special detergent.
It took 13 hours to complete the "washing-itself" cycle.
As I had expected, lot of hidden dirt and filth from appeared and I am satisfied with the result(↓). Click the image if would like to see what was removed .

From this year, a newly designed weather warning service became available to let us know about imminent disaster in relation to huge rain.
According to the danger level, each region on the warning map is indicated in different colors. For example, areas in white is considered to be relatively safe, red means "be alerted and evacuate if you are elderly", purple says "evacuate now but the decision is yours," and black means "something deadly could have happened already, you can die, do whatever you can to survive."
Today my area was painted in black. Which looks like everyone in this area has died out. But not. We didn't see flood or mudslide in this particular place.
The problem of this system, I think, is that although even the area as a whole is in black, actual damages occur in quite limited spot.
In fact, you have to cross-reference this map with other maps or cautions to see whether and where you have to evacuate.
If you look at Yahoo!'s weather map, or NHK's news and disaster prevention map, your will find where you are now is actually at danger. If you are really at danger, you have to find your nearest evacuation spots. which have been designated by the city officials. But ironically they do not always look safer because of a) the requirement (bring alcohol, masks and others) to get in the spots ; b) fear of getting infected with the COVID 19 while staying with strangers; c) the fact that the place is lower than your place, which means it is more likely flooded.
Generally, weather forecast in Japan is very kind (sometimes meddling, telling us what to wear, or which type of rain items we should carry), but when it comes to emergency, it only says "keep yourself alive" or "help each other."

Preparing for Vaccination ― 2021/08/20
As my vaccination appointment is approaching, I have started to indulge myself, no, prepare for the side effects after getting vaccinated.
I have been repeatedly told, or frightened, by news that we would have to go through very bad side effect after the shots, in particular after the second shot, such as high temperature or headache.
So I thought I had to stock what I might want in such situations.

In case no appetite (if not to reward myself).

Antisocial Behavior ― 2021/08/21
I wonder which is more antisocial or sinful in the current situation ...
Case 1:
Fully vaccinated and (naturally) masked robber (supposing the victim is not harmed and is insured against robbery) VS. Unvaccinated, unmasked and potentially infected but not tested joggers running in a crowded park.
Case 2:
A family with three unmasked and very active children enjoying a meal at a crowded food court VS. vaccinated and masked elderlies enjoying Karaoke in a closed Karaoke bar (no stranger is involved)
and Case 3:
A Mayor who neither does nothing helpful nor even appear in public when the number of newly confirmed CORONA cases is increasing but encourage people go out once the number start decreasing (and as a result, inviting more tragedies) VS. A Governor whose measures doesn't work but keeps appearing and (at least) trying to explain the situation to his people.
Summery Dish 2021 ― 2021/08/21
I found cucumber can be cooked similarly with courgette.
I cooked overgrown cucumber with lot of Katsuobushi, which turned to be a nice side dish (the katsuobushi cost more than cucumber, though).

I wonder why Aspara-na (asparagus-like leaves) costs always almost same throughout the year, between 99 and 129 yen at my local Marukyo.
Because of the big and long rain we suffered for the last couple of weeks, vegetable, including leafy ones, has been extremely expensive or completely disappeared. But this particular leaves are available plenty, though the volume of a bunch is smaller.

But at the age of 50++, I am fascinated with this very cute comic.
This manga depicts a cat who worked at a bookstore in her former life. One day, she (as a cat) finds herself transformed to a human girl with cat's head in a particular bookstore owned by a young and good-looking man...
How romantic!
She wears in different dresses each time she transforms. Each dress looks so lovely!
But I might scream and run off from the store if I found a cat-headed girl in this proportion...Her head look huge. It could be over 100cm in diameter...

Due to the rapid increase of the newly confirmed Corona cases and the shortage of hospital beds and hotel room to accommodate the patients, officials uses this word, instead of: "we can no longer take care of you".
As of 9 Aug, 84 people have reportedly died while waiting for the bed. This number likely to have doubled, tripled or quadrupled in the past ten days.
