Food Court2010/06/14

Welcome!

As well as sampling at the food sections of department stores, visiting food courts in supermarkets or shopping mall is one of gastronomic attractions you should try while staying in Fukuoka.

Why this display?

Although food courts tend to be assumed unindividual, I mean every food court throughout Japan is occupied by nationwide fast food chains, here you may well find some locality and what we eat in our everyday life, not a  ‘tourist special’ .

The most ‘Fukuoka’ option should beUdon .

Typically Fukuoka...
Here you can try the famous soft, or overcooked, noodles (this is one of characteristics of Fukuokan Udon) accompanied by rice balls.

Or how about notoriously greasy Fukuokan Ramen with soup stock  made from pork bones?

Ramen!!

If you would like ‘healthier’ options, locally produced breads

high-end in this food court
and a rotating sushi bar are also available.

If you have a sweet tooth, try crepes in Japanese style, loaded with lots of cream and decorations.

In my childhood, the basic food-court snack was Tako-yaki (chopped octopus in baked dumplings)

octopus balls
or Tai-yaki (baked fish-shaped cake with sweetened bean paste in it).
Traditional sweet
Of course there are these traditional nibbles.

Today I had a Korean-style stone-baked bibimbap (savoury toppings on white rice in heated stone bowl).

Korean fast food

Maybe because of our geographical closeness to Korea, there are many Korean restaurant in this city,  and even food courts seem to follow the local convention.

When I placed my order, I was given a sort of pager which would beep when my dish is ready.

 Then, here we are!

If you come around, why not go to the nearest shopping mall and enjoy Fukuokan tastes at an affordable price?
