Earring Part2014/11/27

finally found!

We call these tiny bits “pierce catchers,” and I am not sure whether these should be called “backs,” “clasps” or “clutches” in English. Do these terms mean a same thing?

fits like this

Anyway, I didn’t know there was a store dealing with accessory parts in such an accessible location, just above JR Hakata Station.

convenientce store (for me)

Assuming I would have to order such a thing in bulk (hundreds at least?) at a specialty store where sulky shop assistants would sniff at my request, I have just helplessly hoarded earrings with odd backs.

I have finally been free from a fear that someone might point out: “that obachan uses different back on each ear!”

I also got the imitation pearl ones in hope that my earrings become reversible. I am quite sure I will lose one of these in a few months, though.

Hi there... these are just called "backs" in English. Some of mine are mixed up but I don't care as long as the earring stays where it belongs!

Recently I read that the Kanbeii Taiga Drama will end in Japan on Dec 21. I'll bet you'll be glad, huh? We have about 10 episodes left. I am really going to miss the show -it's the best I've seen in years. I'm not going to watch the next one though because it takes place during the Bakumatsu period. I'm not Japanese yet I feel as if I've seen way too much of that era.

By the way, I really like all your cat pictures. And Amanda and I will be back in Japan in May. This time we are going to Niigata, Yonezawa, and lots of places in the Sendai area. I hear there is a fox village somewhere in Miyagi - can't wait to see that!

Hope you are well.

Diane San

Welcome back here. Thank you for leaving a comment.

And thank you for letting me know what you call the earing part. “Backs”…very simple, but I could not think of that by myself.
The good thing of being a blogger is being able to learn “living” English, thanks to kind readers like you!

Did you enjoy the Kanbei drama so much?
I don’t particularly hate Kanbei himself. But when it comes to period dramas, I tend to love “underdogs,” or someone went to ruin. So I prefer Nobunaga to Ieyasu, the Heishi to the Genji etc….Kanbei was a successful (though he had to go through countless hardships) warlord, so I could not be interested in him. I might have been a keen viewer if it was about Mitsunari Ishida or Yukimura Sanada…or even Mitsuhide Akechi.
Anyway, I had been really fed up with the sickening amount of advertising of the drama even before the actual drama started!

Thank you for liking my cat pictures! I am not amazon, but you may also like:

Enjoy your trip to Hokuriku and Tohoku area.
I haven’t heard about the fox village, is that this?

It seems you can pet some animals there, very envious!
